A portfolio director argues that a proposed capital investment should be approved primarily because it uses an approved, disciplined delivery methodology. According to the source guidance, what is the fundamental flaw in this reasoning?
Explanation
This is why benefits ought to be the primary rationale for any capital investment decision-making.
benefits are the rationale for investment in projects, programmes and portfolios, not the means to justify a project or programme.
A project sponsor has an idea for a new IT system and asks the team to identify all the benefits that could result from building it. Based on the 'Start with the End in Mind' principle, why is this approach problematic?
Explanation
we should start by determining what benefits are required and then scope the project or programme to deliver those benefits.
The result is typically wasted effort in managing benefits that are overstated in order to obtain funding.
